Do you need a guide to climb Mount Toubkal?
A guide is officially required to climb Mount Toubkal — regulations introduced in recent years mean trekkers should hire a licensed mountain guide, and in practice it’s strongly advised anyway for safety, navigation and altitude. Toubkal is 4,167 m, and while the standard route is non-technical in summer, the altitude and weather make a guide sensible as well as compulsory.
A guide handles the permit and logistics, arranges the refuge night, and keeps you safe if weather or altitude turns. Many people book a two-day package that includes the guide, mule for bags, refuge and meals from Imlil.
