How much cash should I carry for a week in Morocco?

For a week in Morocco, carrying the equivalent of around €200–400 in dirhams at a time is sensible for most travellers, topped up from ATMs as you go rather than withdrawn all at once. The exact figure depends on your style — budget backpackers need less day to day, while anyone doing tours, shopping or eating out should lean to the higher end.

Cash matters here because taxis, souks, small riads, tips, rural areas and desert camps are cash-only, and card machines are unreliable. But don’t carry your entire week’s budget on you — keep most of it in your room safe and take out what you need for the day.

Split your cash and cards between bag and pockets, and keep an emergency reserve of foreign currency separately. Withdraw larger amounts less often to reduce ATM fees, but never so much that losing your wallet would ruin the trip.
