Can you visit the Sahara in August?
You can visit the Sahara in August, but it’s the hottest, most challenging time — daytime desert temperatures often exceed 45°C, so trips are built around dawn and dusk, with the middle of the day spent resting in the shade. It’s doable and still magical at sunrise and sunset, but the heat is intense.
Camel treks run in the early morning and late afternoon to avoid the peak heat, and nights are warm but bearable, unlike the cold of winter. Hydration, sun protection, light clothing and a good camp with shade or air-conditioning are essential.
If you have flexibility, spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) are far more comfortable for the desert. But if August is when you can travel, an early-and-late schedule makes a Sahara trip perfectly possible.
