Can you sandboard at Erg Chigaga?

Yes, you can sandboard at Erg Chigaga — its tall, remote dunes are well suited to it, and many camps and guides there can provide a board. Erg Chigaga, reached from the Zagora/M’hamid side, is wilder and less visited than Erg Chebbi, with big dunes that make for a good slide down.

Sandboarding here is casual rather than a groomed activity: you walk up a dune and glide down on a waxed board, which is great fun and needs no experience. Ask your camp or tour to arrange a board in advance, as they’re not always on hand.

Early morning or late afternoon is best, avoiding the midday heat, and the sand is often faster in cooler, drier conditions. Sandboarding is equally possible at Erg Chebbi near Merzouga if that fits your route better.
