At most Sahara desert camps you charge a phone from a shared solar-powered supply or a small generator, but power is limited and not always available all night, so bring a fully charged power bank as your main plan. Basic camps may have only a few communal sockets that run for a set window in the evening.

A good 10,000–20,000 mAh power bank will keep a phone and camera going through a one- or two-night trip with ease, and it means you’re not queuing for a socket or leaving your phone unattended. Charge everything before you leave your last hotel.

Luxury camps are more likely to have reliable power points in each tent, but even then a backup battery is wise. Cold desert nights also drain batteries faster, so keep devices warm inside your sleeping area.
