Sahara & desert trips
Do Moroccan desert camps have flushing toilets?
It depends on the camp: luxury and many standard desert camps in Merzouga now have private or shared flushing toilets and even hot showers, while basic bivouac camps may have simple non-flushing or long-drop toilets. Sanitation in the dunes has improved a lot, so comfortable options are widely available if you book accordingly.
If a proper flushing toilet and a hot shower matter to you, choose a luxury or upgraded standard camp and confirm the facilities when you book — the listing or your operator can tell you exactly what each tent has. En-suite tents are the most comfortable.
At the most basic camps, expect modest shared facilities and bring your own tissues and hand sanitiser. Because water is precious in the desert, even good camps ask you to use it sparingly.
