How many days do you need in Fes?

Two days is ideal for Fes — one full day with a guide to navigate the vast medieval medina and its highlights, and a second to revisit favourites at your own pace or day-trip to Volubilis and Meknes. One day covers the essentials but feels rushed in the world’s largest car-free urban area.

Day one is best spent with a local guide, since Fes el-Bali is a genuine labyrinth: the tanneries, Al Karaouine, the medersas, the souks and the artisan quarters. Day two lets you wander, shop and breathe, or take the easy trip out to the Roman ruins and imperial Meknes.

If you’re tight on time, a single well-guided day still gives you a strong sense of Fes. But the medina rewards a slower second day, and the nearby sights make two nights the sweet spot.
