Take the car from your Fes Hotel or Riad at around 8:30 am by your driver. Then, you begin your five-day desert adventure. Fes up to Marrakech via Merzouga and departure to the Sahara desert, where the sand and dunes in Erg Chebbi are located.
Tafilalet, the biggest oasis in southern Morocco, is reached after an 8-hour drive across the Atlas Mountains. The oasis is made up of several villages, palm trees, and the two main Saharan cities of Erfoud and Rissani.
There will be many stops along the route, including the town in the mountains in Ifrane, Azrou cedar forest, where the monkeys are found, Midelt for lunch, and Ziz valley, with its amazing panoramic views over the palm trees and the green valley that lies in the Sahara. Then, we’ll travel to the Erg Chebbi sand dunes.
As we venture deeper into the desert, the dunes will gradually come into view. After a day of exploration, you can look forward to a relaxing evening at a hotel with a pool, nestled on the dune line in Erg Chebbi. It’s the perfect way to unwind after the first day of your five-day desert adventure from Fes to Marrakech.
Today, we will discover the desert area along with the fantastic Erg Chebbi desert dunes. We will tour the dunes, where you may observe the striking shifting desert contrasts and the nomadic way of life.
Our next stop is the ‘black village’ of Khamlia, a cultural hub where you’ll have the chance to meet Gnawa musicians and immerse yourself in their captivating music. Following this, you can savor a traditional Berber pizza lunch in the historic capital of Rissani. After lunch, we’ll take a camel ride to see the sunset over the dunes, an amazing scene that will take your breath away. We will then spend the night in a desert camp, further deepening your cultural connection.
In the breathtaking Sahara desert, we will have a traditional tagine lunch, sip delectable mint tea, listen to traditional Berber music, and watch the moon rise and stars emerge.
We’ll rise early in the morning to catch the most stunning sunrise of your lifetime, which will create different colors and shadows over the vast, impressive sand dunes in Morocco. Then, we’ll return to our hotel in the desert.
After a hearty breakfast, we’ll set off for Tinghir and the awe-inspiring Todra Gorge, Morocco’s largest and narrowest gorge. This is not just a place to visit, but an adventure waiting to happen. The gorge offers the perfect terrain for a thrilling hike, and you can also relax at the edge of the river or savor some delicious local Berber dishes.
Lunch in the middle of the gorge. We’ll travel across Dades Valley, where we will conclude our trip by staying in a comfortable hotel situated at the summit of the mountains.
We begin our drive on the 1000 Thousand Kasbahs route after breakfast at the hotel since there are enormous kasbahs across both highways. A few fortified homes are being restored, but unfortunately, many are in ruin.
We travel through Dades Valley and ascend to the mountainous region via an off-road route that passes many Berber villages and cave dwellings. In this area, we’ll have the opportunity to visit one of the families and observe their everyday lives and the main task they perform: caring for flocks of sheep and goats.
We’ll be amazed by the stunning landscapes of the beautiful rose valley before reaching the Skoura palm grove. 45km further, we arrive at Ouarzazate for dinner and stay overnight in the hotel.
We will visit the Taourirt Kasbah after breakfast and then go to Ait Benhaddou to see the World Heritage Site. The excursion will end with visits to the Kasbah El Glaoui and Telouet, a classic Berber town in the High Atlas.
We will eat lunch at an eatery in Telouet before heading down the Tizi-n’Tichka to Marrakech, where our five-day desert trip ends from Fes up to Marrakech by Merzouga Sahara.

Amazing five days desert tour Fes to Marrakech via Sahara desert
We had the pleasure of booking a day trip with Morocco Day Tour Company, and it was worth it from the beginning until the end. Owner Mohamed provided us with a fantastic schedule that included two nights in Merzouga, the Sahara desert, one at the hotel and the second in a Berber camp. Mohamed responded to our emails exceptionally quickly. After the most amazing sunset I have ever seen and breathtaking daybreak, we loved spending time by the fire, jamming out to Berber music on the drums. Returning with camels was a fantastic experience.
The accommodations in Dades and Ouarzazate were truly top-notch, with clean rooms and a welcoming, professional staff. If you’re planning a trip, I highly recommend Morocco Day Tour. Thank you, Said, for an incredible journey.
The trip of a lifetime!!!
I heartily endorse doing this trip! Our trip was incredible. Without a doubt, the desert was the highlight and a must-see. Mohamed took care of everything and was a fantastic guide.
Five days/four nights Fes to Marrakech
The entire tour was an amazing experience! Our air-conditioned 4×4 took us across Morocco’s constantly shifting scenery in luxury. Our knowledgeable Berber guide thoroughly discussed the customs and culture of the region, having firsthand experience with both the people and the desert.
Ali, our guide, was a true guardian on this journey. He ensured our safety and comfort, especially during the overnight camel trek across the desert, by insisting we carry extra water. His professionalism and friendly nature reassured us at every stage of the tour.
The tour’s accommodation was top-class, offers fantastic breakfasts and evening dinners, as well as swimming pools to chill down after a hot day in the desert. We would have never seen or experienced this part of Morocco traveling independently.
