Fes » Azrou (Ceder forest) » Midelt » Erfoud » Merzouga [467 Km]
Day one takes you from Fes towards the Merzouga Sahara. Midelt, your midway point, sits between the Middle Atlas and the High Atlas at 1,508 metres above sea level.
The drive is breathtaking: Azrou and its Barbary macaques, the stunning hilltops around Midelt, the Tizi n’Talghamt pass, and the Ziz Gorge, followed by a meal and the long green ribbon of the Ziz Valley all the way to Merzouga.
Merzouga is a gorgeous town in the Sahara desert — a treat for the eyes, and the start of an unforgettable camel ride through the stunning dunes, crowned by a spectacular sunset. The evenings here are beautiful too, with bonfires and delicious meals.
Merzouga Desert Tour & Camel Trek (Night in Desert Camp) [45 km]
In the morning, after breakfast, we start exploring the area with a visit to Khamlia, a village founded by families with roots in Mali — listen to their music and learn how they live.
Then we drive through the old Mifis mines to see how they worked, before dropping in behind the dunes into a desert full of life and beautiful views. We enjoy a relaxing cup of tea with local Bedouins, then return to the hotel.

We get an early start to witness what may be the most beautiful sunrise of your life, casting shifting colours and shadows over the vast dunes. After breakfast and a shower, we leave the desert hotel and continue to Tinghir and the breathtaking Todra Gorge — Morocco’s greatest and narrowest gorge.
The gorge is a beautiful place to hike, laze by the river’s edge, or taste some delicious local Berber dishes. After lunch, we travel through the heart of the Dades Valley and end the day at a lovely hotel high in the mountains.

The last day of your four-day desert trip continues towards Marrakech via Ait Ben Haddou and Telouet.
The journey follows an old caravan route through Ait Ben Haddou, stopping for an hour at Telouet, the kasbah of the Pacha Glaoui, before climbing through the High Atlas Mountains over the famous Tizi n’Tichka pass. We drop you off at your hotel between 6 and 7 pm.
