Program Itinerary of the 4 Days Desert Tour from Fes

Day 1

Fes » Azrou (Cedar forest) » Midelt » Erfoud » Merzouga [467 Km]

Our driver collects you at your accommodation or riad to begin your 4-day, 3-night tour. You drive south to Azrou via Ifrane — Morocco’s little Switzerland — and on towards Midelt in the Middle Atlas mountains. Stopping at the cedar forest, you can take amazing photos of the Barbary apes before continuing to Midelt and enjoying the mountain landscapes.

After lunch, we continue along the Ziz Valley towards Erfoud, Rissani, and Merzouga. On arrival, a welcome tea and drink await you, and you spend the night at a riad hotel.

Day 2

Explore Merzouga area & Camel Trek (Night in Desert Camp) [45 km]

After breakfast, we start exploring the area with a visit to Khamlia, a village whose Gnawa community has roots in Mali — listen to their music and learn how they live.

The adventure continues through the old Mifis mines, a fascinating place where you get a firsthand look at how they operated. We then drop in behind the dunes into a vibrant desert landscape with breathtaking views, and share a serene tea break with local Bedouins before returning to the hotel.

After a rest, your local guides show you the proper way to mount and dismount your camel and share safety tips before you set out across the mysterious sea of sand at Erg Chebbi. You stay the night in the comfort of a Berber tent.

Day 3

Merzouga » Ziz Vally » Todra Gorges & Dades Valley [255 km]

The group gets an early start to catch the most stunning sunrise of your life, casting shifting shades and shadows over the largest sand dunes in Morocco. After breakfast, we leave the desert and continue to Tinghir and the magnificent Todra Gorge, the highest and narrowest in Morocco.

The gorge is a wonderful place to hike, rest by the river, or try some local Berber delights. After lunch at the bottom of the valley, we travel to the Dades Valley and finish the day at a lovely hotel perched on a mountain summit.

Day 4

Dades Valley » Ziz Valley » Midelt » Fes [472 Km]

After a delicious continental breakfast, we pack up and set off on the return leg to Fes. From the Todgha Gorge, we travel through palm groves and follow an easy road through the Ziz Valley, stopping at a viewpoint for tea and the scenery spread out before us.

As we head north to Midelt, the mountains close in around us, and nomad camps with goat-hair tents dot the fields. After lunch, we cross the Middle Atlas Mountains and forests, where you can stop to watch the cheeky Barbary monkeys under the cedars. We also stop for coffee in the alpine town of Ifrane.

At the end of the afternoon, we arrive in Fes, where we say goodbye.
