10-Day Tour From Fes

Your driver waits for you in the arrivals hall at the time you choose and takes you to your hotel. You’ll have dinner and spend the night in a hotel or riad.

After breakfast at your hotel, we start in the modern part of Fes. We walk to the Royal Palace and the Mellah, the city’s old Jewish quarter.

In the narrow streets shaped by generations of dyers, potters, and other craftsmen, the bustle around you feels hundreds of years old — a medieval city where time stopped. You’ll have dinner and spend the night in a riad.

After breakfast, we drive to Volubilis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to the best-preserved Roman ruins in North Africa. Despite the great earthquake of 1755, Volubilis still keeps its intricate mosaics.

Next we visit Meknes, a town that once supplied the Roman Empire. First named Miknasa after the Berber tribe who settled here, it later became one of Morocco’s imperial cities.

We wander through the ancient heart of old Meknes, full of stories of history and glory. Then we head to Rabat, Morocco’s capital, to see its famous landmarks: the Hassan Tower, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, and the Kasbah of the Udayas.

In the morning, we visit the Hassan II Mosque — the biggest mosque in Morocco, the second-largest in Africa, and the fifth-largest in the world. Inside and out, it shows you the skill of Moroccan craftsmen and the beauty of Islamic architecture.

Afterwards, we drive to Marrakech. When you arrive, stretch your legs in Jemaa el Fna, the famous square and market at the heart of the old medina.

Nobody knows for certain where the name comes from. Some say sultans once executed their enemies here; others translate it as “the mosque at the end of the world”. Today the square draws travelers and Moroccans alike — a living stage for Moroccan food, music, and culture.

An official Marrakech guide leads you on a private tour of the city. You start with the famous Koutoubia Mosque and the old medina with its beautiful traditional souks.

You continue to the Ali Ben Youssef Koranic school and the city’s most loved spots — from the grandeur of the Saadian Tombs and the Bahia Palace to the calm of the Majorelle Gardens, each one shows you a different side of Marrakech. In the evening, you return to your riad in the heart of the medina for dinner and a well-earned rest.

We leave the red city of Marrakech for the High Atlas Mountains, crossing the Tizi n’Tichka pass at 2,260 m.

On the other side, we pass traditional Berber villages along the river, then follow a side road to a hidden gem: Kasbah Telouet. It looks like little more than a ruin — until you step inside its stunning rooms. Once the main residence of the Pacha of Marrakech, it is full of intricate tile, plaster, and cedarwood work.

We continue down the valley to another kasbah, famous as a film location and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987: Ait Benhaddou, a fortified ksar on the riverbank. It sits on the old trade route between the Sahara and Timbuktu, once traveled by salt-laden camel caravans.

After lunch at a nearby restaurant, we drive to Ouarzazate and on to the beautiful palm grove of Skoura, with kasbahs hidden among the trees. Enjoy the drive along the Valley of Roses on the way to Dades, where we spend the night.

After breakfast, we head out through the Dades Valley to admire its incredible rock formations, stopping to rest at one of the most beautiful spots in the gorges. From there we drive towards Tinghir and the Todra Valley, with views of ancient mud-brick Berber villages and palm trees filling the valley below.

At Todgha Gorge, walk between red cliffs that rise 300 m at the narrowest point. We continue through Erfoud and Rissani — once Sijilmassa, home base of the Alaouite dynasty that still rules Morocco today — and stop for lunch on the way.

Then we drive on to Merzouga, where a hot glass of tea welcomes you before your night in a riad or hotel.

Today we explore the Merzouga desert region. We start at Lake Srij, then drive to Khamlia, a village founded by Gnawa families whose ancestors came from Mali. Listen to their music and hear how they live.

Next we visit the old Mifis mines to see how they once worked, then follow the edge of the dunes through wide desert views. We sit down for tea with a Berber Bedouin family who live in tents, and you’ll hear about their customs and way of life.

Back at the hotel, get ready for the dunes. Your local guides show you how to mount and dismount your camel and share safety tips before you ride into the Erg Chebbi sand sea (about 1.5 hours). You spend the night in a Berber tent.

After riding back on your camel and taking a shower, we drive to Rissani, Morocco’s first imperial city.

We continue through Erfoud, famous for its fossils, and cross the Ziz Valley with panoramic views of palm groves and gorges, over the Tizi n’Talghomt pass. We reach Midelt in time for lunch.

Then we drive through cedar forests — stopping to watch the wild monkeys — pass Ifrane, known as “the Moroccan Switzerland”, and arrive in Fes, Morocco’s cultural capital. You’ll have dinner and spend the night at your hotel.

After breakfast, we cross the Tizi n’Talghomt pass and stop at Azrou to watch the Barbary apes that live among the cedar and pine forests.

We have lunch here, then continue to Fes. Later in the day, we drop you at your hotel or the airport — the end of your 10-day journey through Fes, the imperial cities, and the Merzouga Sahara.
