Which hand should you eat with in Morocco?

You should eat with your right hand in Morocco — the left hand is traditionally considered unclean, so bread, communal dishes and finger food are handled with the right. When eating from a shared tagine or couscous plate, you use bread in your right hand to scoop from the section directly in front of you.

If you’re left-handed, do your best to use your right hand for eating and passing food, especially in a home or traditional setting; no one expects perfection from a guest, but the effort is noticed and appreciated. Using both hands for something bulky is fine.

The same right-hand courtesy applies to giving and receiving items and to greetings. Wash your hands before a shared meal, as many dishes are eaten communally with bread rather than cutlery.
