Can tourists eat in public during Ramadan in Morocco?

Tourists are not expected to fast during Ramadan and can eat, but you should do so discreetly and avoid eating, drinking or smoking openly in the street out of respect for those fasting. Restaurants and cafés that serve tourists during the day do exist, particularly in tourist areas, and that’s where daytime meals happen.

Being sensitive matters: eat inside a restaurant, hotel or your riad rather than on a public bench or while walking, and keep water and snacks out of sight in public. Locals fasting all day will appreciate the courtesy.

After sunset the atmosphere transforms, with the iftar meal and lively late-night streets that are a wonderful thing to witness. Travelling during Ramadan is rewarding if you adapt to the daytime quiet and the night-time buzz.
