Friday is the main day of prayer and the traditional couscous lunch, so the rhythm of the medina slows in the early afternoon.

Shops typically reopen later in the afternoon and the souks come back to life, so plan browsing for the morning or late afternoon rather than the middle of the day. Some smaller artisan workshops may stay shut all day.

The upside is a calmer, less hectic medina in those quiet hours, which some visitors prefer for photos and atmosphere. If buying is your goal, though, a weekday gives you the fullest choice and the most open stalls.
