Yes, Rabat is worth a stopover between Casablanca and Fes — Morocco’s capital is elegant, relaxed and full of history, with the Kasbah of the Udayas, the Hassan Tower, the Mohammed V Mausoleum and the Chellah ruins, all seeable in a half or full day. It sits conveniently on the fast train line between the two cities.
Rabat is cleaner, calmer and less hassly than Marrakech or Fes, which makes it a pleasant, low-pressure stop. The blue-and-white Kasbah of the Udayas overlooking the Atlantic is a particular highlight.
With the Al Boraq and regular trains linking Casablanca, Rabat and onward connections, breaking the journey here is easy. A few hours is enough for the main sights, and it adds welcome variety to a first Morocco itinerary.
