What is there to do in the Ourika Valley?
Ourika is the closest mountain escape to Marrakech — a green river valley in the Atlas foothills, about an hour from the city. You can walk to the Setti Fatma waterfalls, visit a Berber home and an argan cooperative, and eat beside the river where the air is far cooler than the medina.
The Ourika Valley starts about an hour south of Marrakech and climbs into the High Atlas along a river of the same name. It is the shortest way to trade the heat and noise of the medina for cold water, walnut trees and mountain air.
The valley floor is farmed in narrow terraces, and villages cling to both banks. Cafés set their tables literally in the river, on platforms above the current, which is where most visitors end up for lunch.
At the head of the valley, Setti Fatma is the starting point for a scramble up to a series of small waterfalls. It is a rocky walk rather than a groomed path, and how far you go is up to you.

How hard is the walk
The waterfall scramble is rocky and uses stepping stones across the river. Skip it and enjoy the valley floor if you would rather not climb.
