Please note: the Zagora desert is a rocky desert with small white dunes. If you’re looking for Morocco’s most beautiful desert, with the largest and highest orange dunes, we recommend a 2- or 3-day tour to the Merzouga desert and the Erg Chebbi dunes instead.

Program Itinerary of the Marrakech to Zagora Desert Tour
Marrakech » Atlas Mountains » Zagora (Camel Trek & Camping) [355 km]
After breakfast, we begin our 2-day desert trip south from Marrakech to Zagora. From the town of Ait Ourir, the road narrows and climbs to the 2,260-metre Tizi n’Tichka pass above the canyon, which the Tamesna River floods and drains. Little hamlets survive here thanks to these rivers.
Continuing on, we discover another gem of the region, the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ait Benhaddou — a fortified village whose crenellated towers make it one of the most stunning kasbahs of the Glaoui region. From the kasbah, the road leads to Ouarzazate and into the Anti-Atlas, passing the Draa Valley and its river, with tiny villages lining the valley’s edge.
The Draa is one of the most enormous valleys in Morocco — a massive green tongue running through the desert for about 250 miles. It leads you to Zagora, where our camels are waiting to cross the sand dunes. You trek by camel for about two hours, then spend the night deep in the Sahara, sleeping in nomad tents in complete silence — the perfect way to enjoy the evening, the stars, and the moon. Dinner and your overnight stay are at the desert camp. That closes the first day of your tour.

On the morning of day 2, after breakfast, we travel to Ouarzazate through the Draa Valley — 164 km of scenic road past many villages and oases. Beyond Agdz, we cross the Djebel Sarhro, with its stunning heart-shaped dunes.
We return to Marrakech over the Tizi n’Tichka pass in the middle of the Atlas, where the slopes reward you with spectacular views over the colours of the Haouz Valley.
