Where can tourists buy alcohol in Marrakech?

Tourists can buy alcohol in Marrakech at licensed supermarkets such as Carrefour and Acima (which have a discreet alcohol section), at some specialist shops, and at licensed bars, hotels and restaurants. Alcohol is legal for tourists but sold quietly, and you won’t find it in the medina’s small grocers or on general display.

The supermarket alcohol sections are usually tucked at the back and close earlier than the rest of the store, and are shut on Fridays and during religious holidays. Bring ID, and don’t expect to buy in the old-town souks.

For a drink out, head to licensed restaurants, rooftop bars and hotel bars, which are plentiful in Gueliz and the Hivernage district. Buy discreetly, carry it in an opaque bag, and don’t drink in the street.
