Is it OK to wear leggings in Atlas Mountains villages?

Leggings are fine for hiking in the Atlas Mountains, but in the villages themselves it’s more respectful to wear a longer top or a tunic over them so the shape is covered, as Berber mountain communities are traditional and conservative. On the trail nobody minds technical gear; passing through a village is where a bit more coverage matters.

A long-line top, a tied shirt around the waist, or loose trousers over the leggings solves it easily and also protects you from sun and scrub. Covered shoulders and a hat complete a practical, courteous hiking outfit.

These villages see trekkers regularly and are welcoming, so this is about courtesy rather than any hard rule. Dressing modestly in the settlements while wearing what you need on the mountain strikes the right balance.
