Most taxi drivers in Marrakech speak at least some French, and many also handle basic English for common tourist destinations, so communicating your destination is usually easy. French is the practical lingua franca for taxis, so knowing your destination’s name and a few French words helps.

For clarity, have your destination written down or shown on a map, especially for a specific riad or a lesser-known address, since pronunciation and medina navigation can cause confusion. Agreeing the fare (or insisting on the meter) before setting off avoids disputes.

A little French — "bonjour," the place name, "combien?" (how much) — goes a long way. For medina riads, remember the taxi can only reach the nearest gate, so name that gate if you know it.
