Packing, luggage & tech

Do you need hiking boots for a Morocco trip?

You only need hiking boots for a Morocco trip if you’re doing serious mountain trekking like Toubkal or multi-day Atlas hikes — for cities, medinas, deserts and light walks, comfortable trainers or sturdy walking shoes are perfectly adequate. Most travellers get by without boots entirely.

Full boots make sense for rocky, high-altitude or multi-day treks where ankle support and grip matter. For everyday sightseeing on cobbles, camel treks and gentle valley walks, breathable trainers you can slip on and off are more practical and pack smaller.

If your plans mix a big trek with city time, bring both, but don’t lug boots around just for the medinas. Match the footwear to your most demanding activity, and add sandals for the camp and the heat.
