Is the Rose Festival in Kelaat M'Gouna worth the trip?
The Rose Festival in Kelaat M’Gouna is worth it if you’re in the region in spring and love a local, authentic celebration — held around May when the Valley of Roses is in bloom, it features music, parades, a rose harvest and stalls of rosewater and rose products. It’s charming and genuine rather than a slick tourist event.
The valley itself, on the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs between Ouarzazate and the Dades Gorge, is beautiful when the damask roses flower, filling the air with scent. The festival draws crowds and accommodation fills, so book ahead if you time a trip around it.
If your dates don’t align with the festival, the Valley of Roses is still lovely to drive through in spring on a desert tour. Come for the festival specifically only if the dates fit and a small-town Moroccan celebration appeals.
