Are Moroccan shops closed on public holidays?

On religious public holidays, especially the two Eids, many Moroccan shops and businesses close for a day or more, while on secular national holidays closures are more partial and tourist-facing places often stay open. The big impact comes from the religious festivals rather than the civic ones.

During Eid al-Adha in particular, expect widespread closures for several days as families celebrate, and quieter streets. On smaller national holidays, souks, cafés and tourist sites generally keep running, perhaps with reduced hours.

Check the dates of Islamic holidays (which move each year on the lunar calendar) against your trip, and stock up and pre-book around the Eids. Tourist hotels and riads continue to operate throughout, so you won’t be stranded.
