How risky is the road from Marrakech to Ouarzazate at night?

The road from Marrakech to Ouarzazate over the Tizi n’Tichka pass is best avoided at night because of the terrain, not crime — it’s a winding, high mountain road where driving after dark is genuinely more dangerous. The pass climbs to 2,260 metres with tight switchbacks, sheer drops, occasional rockfall, slow lorries, and stretches with no barrier or lighting.

In daylight it’s a spectacular and perfectly manageable drive; at night the same bends become risky, especially in rain, fog or winter ice near the top. If you’re self-driving, plan to be over the pass before dark, and don’t try to make up time on the descent.
